Italy Adventures: Pompeii

Our first full day in Naples we decided to take a day trip to Pompeii. To be honest, I didn't know too much about the city of Pompeii before we went, and I still couldn't tell you too many significant details after having visited. We could have paid 10 euros for a guided tour, but let's be honest: how many people have the attention span to be talked at for several hours whilst being led around an ancient city. Well, probably a lot of people. I'm just not one of them. I can, however, inform you that Pompeii was an ancient Roman city that was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and preserved by the volanic ash. But so can Wikipedia.

We took a metro train for about 35 minutes to Pompeii and started out the morning with a cappuccino because, you know....the caffeine addiction is real.
We were extremely lucky in that we chose the most beautiful day to make the trip. It was absolutely gorgeous and sunny, which made taking photos all the more fun. And not surprisingly, the photos really don't do the actual scenery justice, but I took enough to fill an entire photo album. So I'll just let them speak for themselves. Prepare for the deluge of photos...

 Elizabeth looking sneaky.
I haven't seen such green grass in a really long time. It made me pretty happy.
A stray puppy we met in the middle of the day; I even got to give him a little pet, before we came across the sign informing dumb tourists to stay away from stray dogs, "for their own safety."
Me looking adorable, as per usual.
The sky started to get darker and stormier as the hours went by, and after a while we decided to head back to the hostel where we met some more lovely people, and headed out to have some pizza for dinner. When in Napoli....
