We were joined by absolutely gorgeous, clear blue skies during our first morning in Rome. We set off for the day planning mainly to just walk around and explore the city as well as visit the Colosseum. We made it to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and decided to save the Colosseum for another day.
Of course we couldn't resist going into a "big, important-looking" building that turned out to be the Basilica of St. John Lateran.
On our way to the historic part of town we stopped for some lunch, and were very impressed with our ability to share two appetizers and not order any pizza or pasta!

A young guy on the street was making bubbles with one of those huge...bubble-making apparatices? Whatever they're called, of course I had to whip out my camera for that as well.
